What is it?
Sweetened condensed milk is made by boiling whole milk to evaporate about 60 percent of the water content. For this type of milk, about 40 percent sugar is added before it’s boiled, so it’s very thick and sweet. It is not interchangeable withevaporated milk, which is unsweetened. It is used extensively in cooking and baking, especially in Latin America.
Where to find it?
Sweetened condensed milk is readily available in the baking aisle of most supermarkets, though for a fun cooking project, you can alsomake it from scratch.
